The Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk

If you’ve ever done the light house walk in Byron Bay, you will know it’s one of the most beautiful walks you can do anywhere in the world. It’s an iconic walk with steep inclines, loads of steps and breathtaking views.

Starting from Captain’s Cook carpark, take the stunning boardwalk all the way to The Pass. Follow the path down to the entrance of The Pass and it’s carpark (don’t even try getting a park here if the waves are pumping…) and the yummy The Pass Cafe (my son’s favourite place for pancakes in Byron).

The next part of the walk sees you head up a steady incline to the first view point. Panoramic views across waters – be sure to bring a camera! Following the path takes you up and over until to take the decline down to beautiful Wategos Beach. You can’t miss Raes on Wategos for five star accommodation or a special lunch or dinner. If you enjoy dining out – get the best seat in the house at Raes Dining Room but be sure to book early!

Cross the footpath to final length of the Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk. This can be particularly challenging however all so rewarding. Following the steps, paths and inclines takes you to the “most easterly point of Australia” (and for some reason I still get joy out of seeing that sign!).  A few more set of steps and then you’re there – you’ve reached it and the reward is yours. Enjoy 360 degree views of the whole peninsula. If you’re lucky enough to be there between May and September – keep an eye out for migrating whales – such a special sight to see. Dolphins and Manta rays are also sights to look out for! Enjoy, take a moment to be thankful and soak it all up – feel good in the knowledge that the way back is much easier.

The Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk – a must if your able and if not able – you can always take the car via the road path to the top!
